HA2 Task 1 - Project Charter
Project Charter
Using the skills I have developed in using Adobe Illustrator and Flash, I have 5 and a half weeks to come up with an original and slightly 2D vector character for a live external client, Lazy Eye Media.
The client wants to be able to use the character across a range of new media devises and applications, so it will have to be a flexible design and have a powerful back story, it is clear that the character will need a potential to create spin-offs.
The IP will be jointly owns and so this means that I will own a percentage of the gains as well as potential losses. I need to fully research characters currently on the market which will help me generate ideas for possible character concepts.
Once I have decided on a concept, I will make a clear and detailed profile of my final design, This will then allow me to work out what I need to create in terms of assets and how I will present them in my pitch, I’ll need to take care in setting up my Flash project according to the supplied specifications, I will update my schedule and production log during my study.
HA2 Task 3 - 2D Characters
2-D Characters
The Legend of Zelda – Link, the character you play as in tLoZ, is a young elf boy, whose mission is to save the ‘Princess Zelda’ much like a fantasy version of Mario where you play an Elf boy… instead of an Italian Plumber, Link has no powers that of beyond his equipment, he has no dialogue beyond that of his shouting then being hurt, falling, attacking or jumping, yet everyone seems to understand this Elven boy, The personality of Link is mild because there isn’t one and you adapt your own personality within the game, I have always been a LoZ fan, because it portrays a new play-style at the time it was released and has its own unique story
Mario – Mario is a simple ‘save the princess’ kind of game, where you play as an Italian Plumber, rather than a knight in shining armour, Mario has no genuine powers, he can eat Mushrooms to get bigger and Fire flowers to throw fireballs at incoming enemy’s, later in the franchise more power-ups were added, Mario’s personality is that of a greedy Italian, always thinking about food and nothing much else really, I like Mario, because he is another classic from my childhood
Sonic the Hedgehog – Sonic the Hedgehog, is a blue Hedgehog that can run really fast, other than that there is nothing else to it, he has a cocky ‘I’ll get it done’ attitude, which is portrayed well within the character, his goal is to collect the Chaos Emeralds and defeat Dr. Eggman who is always trying to stop Sonic, I like Sonic because again, It’s a Childhood Favourite
Street Fighter – Street Fighter is a different kind of game compared to the others, it is a Street Fighting (not that hard to figure out due to the name) much like Mortal Kombat, just not as brutal, more like a child friendly MK… well about as child friendly as you can get about beating each other to a bloody pulp, there is no specific character, but the iconic character of this game is Ryu, and is known for his signature more the ‘Hyduken’, His personality is nothing less of a good guy that happens to be a badass, I like Street Fighter because it was probably the first Brawling game I played as a child
Crash Bandicoot – Crash is one of the most lovable crazy characters you can get, with his crooked eyes and goofy running, it was a very cartoony game but was a blast to play! The goal of a Crash Bandicoot game is still unclear other than to stop Dr. Neo Cortex (Given the name due to his massive head), Crash has a wild personality and hasn’t been given the ability to talk, just too look confused as Neo if he’s explaining something, all of the other characters can talk, even a mask! But not the main character.. Odd, I LOVE the Crash Bandicoot games because it was one of the earliest games I remember playing!
Space Invaders – Space Invaders is a Space Shooter game where you move left and right shooting up at the aliens and ships that are above you, this game has nothing to do with story but just has a high score, because of Space Invaders the authorities in Japan had to put a curfew on all Arcades and resulted in a coin shortage, I like Space Invaders because it’s a game you can play on most devices now-a-days and a good way to pass the time if waiting for someone or something
Final Fantasy – Final Fantasy is a big game franchise, I hadn’t played the first games, the first FF game I played was FF-12 for the PS2 but I never finished it, FF has always had beautiful graphics for its time and never failed to emerge the player into the game, all the games a great but FF-13-2 didn’t get the hype the rest of the games had, there is no real main character because they change from game to game, I like Final Fantasy because it offers a unique playable experience that not many games has to offer, with its unique combat system it has managed to keep its own genre throughout the franchise
Pokémon – Pokémon is one of my all-time favourite game, being proud of my knowledge of all things Pokémon, besides the new games where I personally thing went a bit over the top adding ANOTHER 100 Pokémon or so, Pokémon is what started me off on my path to becoming a gamer and don’t think anyone else it really a gamer if you do not love Pokémon, Pokémon has been a hugely successful franchise as it is still going and releasing new games to date, sadly, the creator of Pokémon dies shortly after the Tsunami in Japan, I like Pokémon because it offers an experience that no other game has to offer, being able to catch any Pokémon, rename them, train them and beat everyone
